Be present during a meeting

Think about all the things you do during a meeting.

Maybe you take notes and mark down next steps, then zone out a little, get off task, and decide to look up a delicious muffin recipe.The next thing you know, you’re doing a rundown of all the spices in your kitchen, realizing you’re out of cinnamon, and mulling over the other things you’ve run out of — suddenly, you’ve gone from taking meeting notes to taking down a grocery list.
See, presence is precarious like that, especially in meetings. Physically being in a meeting is one thing, but being mentally focused and locked into one is something else entirely. That’s why Thomas Kurian, president of product development at Oracle, calls presence the most important trait anyone can bring to a meeting.
